Imagine Your Dream Vacation at the Rusted Barn”

 

At “The Rusted Barn”, nestled in the Missouri Ozarks, your choices of activities for your stay are as many and varied as the guests whom we come to call our “Friends”.

For example your first morning could start with Mrs. Tammy’s “Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Breakfast” served to your table “Family Style” anywhere from 6:00 - 9:00 a.m.

After breakfast, if fishing is your “thing”, simply head down 5 short miles to “Brown Bend Conservation Access” on the largest shoreline lake in the United States, the beautiful “Lake of the Ozarks”.  Maybe you want to try one of the hottest fishing lakes in the nation which is only 25 miles from your front door, “Truman Lake”.  Or perhaps you’re into trout fishing!  Then grab your waders and head down to “Bennett Springs State Park”, which is less than an hour away!  Here at the “Rusted Barn” the fishing choices can be overwhelming as other options include canoeing the beautiful “Niangua River”  for small-mouth and google-eye (30 minutes) to pursuing large Brown Trout at “Table Rock” or “Taney-Como Lakes” south of “Springfield” less than 2 hours away.

After a long day of fishing simply bring your stringer of “Crappie, Blue- Cat, Channels, Hybrid Stripers, Small Mouth, White Bass, Walleye, Trout or World Famous Spoonbill” to Tim and he will gladly clean them for you for a small fee or you can use the stainless steel fish cleaning station and do them yourself free of charge. (Just clean um outside!)

Now it’s Supper time at the “Rusted Barn” and what sounds good from the made from scratch “Menu”?  How about Tim’s Chicken Fried Turkey Breast, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Corn, Green Beans and Biscuits with Peach Cobbler for Dessert!  A little down time sitting out on the finished covered porch with a “fabulous sunset view” will be the perfect ending to a perfect day!

Tuesday morning let’s wake up to another scrumptious breakfast of Pancakes and Sausage.  Perhaps a change of pace is in order for the day.  There are so many options to choose from!  Here are just some of the options within a short drive of the “Rusted Barn”:

• Warsaw : Drake Harbor/Walking & Bike Trails/Antique Stores/Truman Dam Visitor Center/Shawnee Bend Golf (25 miles)
• Camdenton :  Ha-Ha-Tonka State Park/Bridal Cave/ Old Kinderhook Golf (25 miles)
• Osage Beach : Outlet Stores/Para-Sailing/Sea-Doo Rentals/Big Surf Water Park /Osage National Golf (35 miles)
• Springfield: Bass Pro Shops & Cabellas/Wonders of Wildlife/Springfield Cardinals 2-A Affiliate of St. Louis Cardinals/Dickerson Park Zoo (75 miles)
• Branson: Silver Dollar City/Branson Landing/Music Shows/ Top of the Rock Golf (100 miles)
• Kansas City: Crown Center/KC Royals/ KC Chiefs/NASCAR/Sporting KC/Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (100 miles)
• St. Louis: The Gateway Arch/St. Louis Zoo/St. Louis Cardinals/Busch Gardens (160 miles)

 

        You may choose to spend the day at one of these many options and return in time to the “Rusted Barn” for some “homemade cookies” or “caramel drizzled monkey bread”, a relaxing bath in the jacuzzi jet tub and a good night’s sleep. Or you may return in time (5:00 - 9:00 pm) for another of Mrs. Tammy’s home cooked family style Suppers such as meatloaf, country fried pork chops, salsbury steak, chicken-fried steak, fried catfish or smoked BBQ Pulled Pork!

        Perhaps on the following day you are ready for a slower, more restful time to catch your breath!  Let’s start with bacon/sausage with scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast and then ask Tim about access to any of the three large private lakes stocked with bass and available to our guests.  What a great day to schedule family vacation pictures with Mrs. Tammy who has many years experience as a “Professional Photographer” shooting weddings, Family and Senior Pictures.  Would you like to take a “Homesteading Class”or feed and pet our Grandbaby “Brooklyn’s Farm Animals”?         What’s for Supper tonight?  Let’s go for some of Tim’s Smoked Pulled Pork.  So good it will make you want to Slap your Momma!  (Sorry Mom!)

             What if it’s a rain, rain go away day?  No problem, we have lots of puzzles and board games!

        There are so many things to see and do here at the “Rusted Barn” in the center of the Missouri Ozarks.  If you are a hunter then schedule your stay during the Fall WHITETAIL Archery or Rifle Season or Spring TURKEY Season.  We have many Public Land hunting options including Free “Missouri Conservation Areas” and thousands of acres of “US Army Corps of Engineers Land” surrounding Truman Lake.  Are your a “Spoonbiller”?  “Spoonbill Fishing” has become a “must-do” bucket list item for many and a yearly ritual for people across the country!  Tim is friends with the Best Fishing Guide on both Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake for Spoonbill, Blue-Cats, Hybrids or Crappie.

Bring your boat if you please because Crappie and bass fishing on LOZ and Truman are among the best in the country!

        Finally, Missouri is home to 92 State parks. The “Missouri’s State Park System” on multiple occasions has been ranked as one of the Top 4 State Park Systems in the Nation!  Most of these parks are within a couple hours drive or less from the “Rusted Barn”.  Viewing the Fall Foliage on our Country Roads is a destination within itself.

        And so, whether you are coming to stay with us for the weekend or for an entire week, there is no way you will exhaust all of your vacation options and activities!  Here at the “Rusted Barn” (Tim and Tammy) want to spoil you with down-home Ozark hospitality!  Our goal is to create lasting friendships and an annual vacation destination for you, your family and friends!  We will cater to the couple desiring a “honeymoon” style vacation to the family looking for a quieter vacation highlighting days gone by to the hunter(s) wanting an awesome place to stay and eat while fishing and hunting all day long!

        The “Rusted Barn” is designed to accommodate couples, small groups of hunters/fishermen and families of four to six.  If you have a larger family please call us and we can discuss your sleeping arrangement needs.
